About “A Brush of Light”
The word “photography” comes from the Greek roots φωτός (phōtos) meaning “light” and γραφή (graphé) meaning “representation by means of lines”, or in its most basic form simply “painting” or “drawing”. Together the two words thus means “Painting with light”.
And basically, this defines my approach to this project: My models are my canvas and my lights are my brushes.
More than 10 years in the making, making over 200.000 individual exposures and photographs, I am finally ready to share the result of the combined efforts of my models, assistants and me. It’s been a long road and a lot of hard work, but as it also a labor of love, I’ve enjoyed every moment.
Much due to the incredible talent I’ve worked with, the project grew, changed and became so much more than I ever envisioned and even dreamt possible. I am grateful to each of my models who have posed tirelessly for hours on end while I adjusted the lights to create the images in this series. Some of my models have inspired- or even suggested specific poses, that now have become part of the project. I am them forever thankful for their trust and their part in completing this project.
It is my hope that each photograph will be seen in two ways: First without reservation and by simple enjoyment of the beautiful shapes and forms made by the human body in the light that have been tailored to reflect and illuminate only certain edges of the human body. Second by venturing a guess as to how my models have been posed for each image. Some are easy and immediately “readable” others are incredibly more difficult and will take more time to “understand”.
While the 50 unique photographs in this project are not currently on exhibition, I am looking for opportunities to do so. In addition – while I currently have no representation, I am looking for opportunities. Should you have a suggestion, please do not hesitate to contact me.
